About Us
Field Staff
Founded in 1999 by Katherine Hines, Hines Ugandan Ministries (HUM) brings a message of hope with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by ministering to the spiritual, physical and practical needs of widows and orphans of Kamonkoli, a village in eastern Uganda.
We desire to see these children grow up knowing they have eternal life in Christ and to give them the love that He desires for them. The children are the future of the country. Reaching them now will make a difference for each child and for Uganda.
OurĀ People
Field Staff
Katherine Hines, Founder
As a youth, Katherine felt God’s calling on her life to minister to orphans and was drawn to the country of Uganda. She took the opportunity to visit the country in June 1994. She traveled alone under arrangement with The Africa Christian Training Institute, whichĀ she found through the Urbana Mission Conference in 1990.
The village of Kamonkoli (in eastern Uganda) particularly touched her heart and she found that there were few mission agencies serving this area. Again, in July of 1995 Katherine returned to Kamonkoli to minister to the orphans and widows of the community. She officially founded Hines Ugandan Ministries (HUM) in 1999 and continues to serve the village as the Lord leads her and blesses the ministry.
The HUM staff, consisting of local believers, assists Katherine in ministering Christās love to their community.
Pastor Charles Magale,Ā Assistant Director
Pastor Charles has been a pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Kamonkoli since 1995. The partnership between PCK and HUM has beenĀ an integral part of the spiritual discipleship and ministry within Kamonkoli.Ā His responsibilities with HUM include overseeing each project of the ministry, discipline and counseling of the children and youth, community mediation, and overseeing all construction projects.
Together with his wife, Judith, he has 3 children: Anna, Dan, and Rebecca and they have caredĀ for Judith’s two younger sisters, and their foster daughter, Gift.
Christine Nabagenyi,Ā Child Sponsorship Administrator
Since before HUM was created, Christine has been helping Katherine, and she joined HUMĀ full time in 2001. She is the firm rock of our sponsorship program, and all of the day-to-day details (such as designating funds, choosing schools, paying school fees, coordinating letter writing, and school and home visitations) are safe under her supervision. One of her greatest joys is to see a child smiling and know that she played a part in providing a reason for him to smile.
Michael Namai, Medical Officer/Manager of Holmes Medical Clinic
Michael has been working for HUM in many different capacities since 2001. As a trained Medical Officer (similar to a PA in the States), Michael was asked to manageĀ our clinic upon itsĀ opening in 2011. Most days find him in the clinic seeing patients and overseeing the day-to-day operations.
Michael is married to Joy and they have two children: Elena and Marvin.
George Kitaula, Headmaster of Genesis School
George has been a faithful science teacher at Genesis for many years and a leader among his colleagues. He became our headmaster in 2021 and is devoted to leading the school forward with strong academics and sound biblical teaching. His wife, Vicky has been the school secretary for many years.
Laura Jones, Missionary
After visiting Kamonkoli on a couple shorter term trips, Laura moved to Kamonkoli on a full time basis in 2017. She holds her Masters in Education from the University of Florida and is focused primarily on developing the Jump Start program at Genesis for students who are struggling academically.
Elizabeth Okech, Missionary
Elizabeth came HUM in 2017 after receiving her B.A. in Intercultural Studies with an emphasis in Elementary Education from Moody Bible Institute. She and Laura work closely together developing the Jump Start program at Genesis School.
