Mission & Vision

Our mission and vision consists of three simple steps:

Reach out to orphans, vulnerable children, and widows with the love of Christ.

Equip them through meaningful education to end the cycle of poverty into which they were born.

Raise Christian leaders that will make a difference to their community and country to the Glory of God.

What We Do

Reaching out to the children of Uganda

For over 25 years, we have served the community and the most vulnerable children, as well as orphans. We exist to train and equip these children to be future servant leaders and overcomers for the Kingdom of God.

  • Most of the children we work with are cared for by a single-parent or extended families, with the exception of those in the children’s home.

  • All the children attend Church and Sunday school and participate in our program’s youth activities. We provide support that benefits the whole family, not just the child, extending the influence of Jesus to the entire community.

How We Do It

Sponsoring a Child

In Uganda, children die daily of malnutrition, and of lack of medical treatment, basic necessities & loving care. Many of the children live in desperate situations, sleeping on dirt floors and becoming infested with lice, fleas, and worms. Many will grow up with no education from lacking the means to pay public school fees. Sponsorship will help meet the basic, physical, educational and spiritual needs of these children. Though most of the sponsored children live in the Kamonkoli community with parents or extended family, our Bear Valley Children’s Home cares for fully orphaned children who have no one available to care for them.

Our Programs

Education

In a country where scarcely half the children complete primary school, virtually all of HUM’s sponsored children do so, most at HUM’s Genesis Nursery/Primary School. The school currently serves children through seventh grade.  Ugandan public schools frequently have more than 100 children in a classroom while Genesis maintains a maximum classroom size of 30 children.  Genesis offers high academic standards and provides a strong Biblical foundation throughout the curriculum. Sponsored and community children attend the school.

One in 6 of the country’s youth attend secondary school while only two-thirds of these actually graduate.  Even fewer attend or complete vocational or university degrees. Sponsorship makes these opportunities a reality for these youth.

Physical Needs

Sponsored children receive consistent nutrition through regular supplemental food baskets to their family as well as daily breakfast and lunch at Genesis School.

As the 3rd poorest country in the world, Uganda struggles to meet all of the medical needs of its citizens. Many deaths occur from common diseases like Malaria, Typhoid, Dysentery and Diabetes for which many simply cannot afford treatment.  The Holmes Medical Clinic meets all of the medical needs for the sponsored children as well as for community members.

Spiritual Impact

Hines Ugandan Ministries believes that it is as important to feed the children spiritually as it is physically. Sponsored and community children attend weekly Awana (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) clubs to learn about Jesus through Bible teaching, scripture memorization and games. Frequently, more than 1,000 children attend. The children also attend Sunday school and receive a Biblical worldview at Genesis School.
