How it Works
In Uganda, children die daily of malnutrition, and of lack of medical treatment, basic necessities & loving care. Many of the children live in desperate situations, sleeping on dirt floors and becoming infested with lice, fleas, and worms. Many will grow up with no education from lacking the means to pay public school fees.
Most of the children supported through sponsorship live with a single parent, intact impoverished family or extended family members; some are cared for in the ministry’s Children’s Home. Ministry staff see sponsored children weekly at AWANA club activities and visit their homes regularly to supplement food, clothing and household needs. Donations help us provide these educational and supplemental needs.
In order to raise these children out of the cycle of poverty into which they were born, sponsorship offers a quality education at the ministry’s Genesis Nursery and Primary School as well as secondary school (high school) and vocational or university training in the country.
We have also established Holmes Medical Clinic to provide affordable medical care to the community and our sponsored children. Your generous gift will allow us to provide ongoing, vital medical services to those who would otherwise go untreated for serious conditions.
The Three Types of Sponsorships:
Asha N
Asha N
Age: 11 | Grade: Primary 5
Asha has lived with her aunt since she was 2 years old. Her parents had serious drug addictions and Asha has been affected by these choices. She is a slow learner, but is making her way. In spite of these limitations, Asha is a fun-loving, friendly girl and she successfully manages good friendships.
Sponsorship through Hines Ugandan Ministries has helped this young girl and her faithful aunt for many years. Asha is making good life choices and is growing spiritually as she attends Awana club and Sunday school regularly. Asha is in need of a second sponsor as we seek options for her further learning opportunities to ensure that she is able to care for herself as an adult in a country where resources for special needs children and adults are limited. She will likely require sponsorship longer than most of her peers, but we are eager to see God work in her life as He desires the best for all His children. A special sponsor will make all the difference for this young lady.

Davina N
Davina N
Davina, along with her twin sister and several brothers, live with their impoverished parents, living off of their small plot of land and working low skill jobs for neighbors when work is available. Sponsorship has allowed Davina to attend school at HUM’s Genesis Primary School where she excelled in her studies. She is now in her second year of high school and continues to do well. Sponsorship has also provided her with basic needs, healthcare and Biblical teaching at school, Awana and Sunday school for many years. She recently lost a partial sponsor and is in need of a new one to help with the higher costs of secondary school.
Davina is a happy girl who enjoys singing in the church choir and participating in Awana activities when she is home from boarding school. She attends Scripture Union club while at school to continue growing in her faith. She also loves a good game of netball, similar to volleyball and is social and makes friends easily. Sponsorship is bringing hope to Davina’s life and lifting her out of the cycle of poverty into which she was born, a blessing that many young Ugandan girls are denied.
Sponsorship need: $100/month from one or between two sponsors
John B
John B
John’s family lives in extreme poverty. His father is a casual laborer, working for people in the community, helping in their gardens, herding livestock, carrying water and more, to bring in what he can to support his family. John’s mother, also uneducated, like his father, is a housewife, gardening and caring for the children.
John has attempted to start school, but the family has been unable to cover the cost of a school uniform, shoes and books. Sponsorship will help John attend our Genesis Nursery and Primary School where he will receive a quality education and learn a Biblical world view. He will also learn about Jesus at Awana and Sunday school. Sponsorship will also help meet his basic and medical needs and make a meaningful difference in his life, ending the cycle of poverty as he grows up.
Sponsorship need: $80/month
Abudalah N
Abudalah N
Abudalah lives with his widowed mother and his seven brothers and sisters. His mother works in the fields of neighbors to provide for her children, though this is seasonal work and the family struggles greatly at time.
Through the HUM sponsorship program Abudalah has had 2 partial sponsors since 2017. Unfortunately, one of these sponsors is unable to continue so we are seeking a new partial sponsor at $80/month as he will be moving on to secondary school in the new year. Abudalah has attended HUM’s Genesis Primary School where he receives a quality education as well as a Biblical world view. He enjoys playing soccer with his friends and helping serve lunch at Saturday Awana. He is a happy boy.
Full sponsorship will continue to meet Abudalah’s basic, spiritual, educational and medical needs while providing him hope for a meaningful future to the glory of God.

Mary K
Mary K
Mary live in extreme poverty with her parents who both are living with HIV. They are uneducated and their health limits their ability to work much, though they do some menial labor for neighbors as they are able. Mary and her siblings help in the family garden, carry water from a distant well and collect firewood to help sustain the family. The family’s limited income is needed for the medicines that keep the disease at bay. Mary has also tested positive for HIV and takes medicine every day. Despite these circumstances, Mary is happy and likes playing hide and seek and many other games with the neighborhood children. She attends Awana Club and Sunday school and receives a Biblical worldview at our Genesis Primary School.
Mary currently has a partial sponsor and is in need of a second sponsor to help fully meet her many needs. Sponsorship is particularly important for this young girl so that she is not married off at a young age to become a child bride as many girls in Uganda are. It will be vital that she is able to care for herself as a young woman as it is unlikely that she will have other support.
Sponsorship need: $45/month
Kaaylah O
Kaaylah O
Age: 7 | Grade: Primary 2
Kaaylah’s father suffers from multiple health problems and is unable to support his family as he once did. Her mother is a housewife with no outside income and spends much time caring for Kaaylah’s very sick father. The family struggles with no income, living only off of their small garden.
They have managed to send her to school at times, but sponsorship will allow Kaaylah to attend school consistently at HUM’s Genesis Nursery and Primary School where she will receive a quality education. School is very important for Ugandan girls as they otherwise are married off very young, continuing the cycle of poverty into which they were born. Sponsorship will also help meet her nutritional, basic and health needs. Most importantly she will learn about the love of Jesus and the hope he offers for her future.
Sponsorship need: $80/month
Michael K
Michael K
Michael lives with his parents and five siblings in extreme poverty. His father is a boda-boda(motorcycle taxi) driver where he earns some money, but not enough to sustain the whole family of seven. Michael pitches in with many chores and helps with his 6 younger siblings whenever he is not at school.
Michael was a bit older when he began attending HUM’s Genesis Primary School, but he stood out as a leader at the school. He is bright, enthusiastic, and a focused-learner which helped him to excel in all his classes. Michael began secondary school this year and is in need of a scholarship sponsor to help cover the additional costs that come with secondary school.
Michael has been active in our AWANA program and Sunday School and he now continues to learn in the Scripture Union Bible Club at his boarding school. He is growing up with a solid Biblical world view and will undoubtedly become a Godly Christian leader and break the cycle of poverty in his family.

Cathy loves going to church and Awana Club and is also learning a Biblical world view at school. She loves going to Genesis and is looking forward to secondary school in February. She is very grateful for her home with the pastor’s family and enjoys knitting and reading story books. She recently received a sponsor, but will need a scholarship sponsor to help with the increased educational costs that come with secondary school. Sponsorship will offer Cathy hope for a future in which she can care for herself despite the many losses she has endured and is overcoming to the glory of God.

George B
George B
Age: 21 | Grade: University 1
George was growing up in a home in terrible conditions. Both parents are considered very low functioning and have been unable to do many jobs, though his father manages to work in gardens for neighbors to make a little money. His mother cannot speak. George and the other siblings suffered so much in their childhood. George had extreme malnutrition to the point of having rickets. It took years of proper nutrition and therapy to get his legs working properly.
We secured a place for George in a children’s home in another village as we did not have room in our home at the time. They nurtured him back to health and provided him with a good high school education, for which he is thankful. However, they do not offer further schooling. George is a bright boy and we would like to help him complete 2 more years of university. He did well in high school and is doing so in his first year of university. He has 1 sponsor to help with these costs, but is in need of a second sponsor to fully cover his schooling and sponsorship needs.
George is a quiet young man that loves God and is thankful for His presence in his life. Sponsorship will make a meaningful difference in his life, helping him end the cycle of poverty for his family.
